SGN works in footway of Littlehampton Road near junction with Roedean Road causing major safety issues for pedestrians. Footway totally blocked by works withy no provision for pedestrians yesterday (Tuesday) Spoke to workmen about issue and asked them to provide temporary footway in carriageway but told not possible as road too busy and not allowed by Council. Absolute rubbish as traffic now is very light due to stay at home policy and safety of pedestrians is paramount. Temporary traffic control by ATS with pedestrian crossing turned off is a simple safe solution. Luckily I was with my wife yesterday when we came across this issue as she is registered severely partially sighted / blind and could not have coped by herself. Workmen said we had to cross Littlehampton Road with no assistance as the Council would not agree to other measures. .-1 Roedean Road, Worthing, BN13 2BP

Half way up the Highways adopted cul de sac driveway of Summerfold is where the issue is. Part of the road tarmac and the soil underneath has collapsed between the drain cover and kerb so there is a gapping hole and a risk that a vehicle could get stuck as the drain cover does not feel secure when you apply pressure with your foot. If a vehicle drives over this there is a risk it could collapse and the wheel falls in and the vehicle is damaged and would need towing out. This is also a risk to anyone on foot because there is no pathway up the adopted driveway of Summerfold, Rudgwick, RH12 3BY.-1 Summerfold, Rudgwick, RH12 3BY

Dear Sir/Madam,

Re: Footpath on the west side of the Adur river south of Bramber

The footpath which runs from the Bramber road bridge south towards the footbridge over the river (approximately 1,400 metres in length) is being used by cyclists who are flouting the numerous visible ‘no cycling’ signs. This spoils the walk for hikers/walkers and in time will damage the surface of the path.

No amount of signs will stop this practise. Cyclists I have spoken to either point to other cyclists abusing the footpath or are themselves verbally abusive.

I believe kissing gates or 5-bar gates and stiles for pedestrians at both ends is the only solution to this growing problem which will only worsen as the warm weather approaches. Signposts encouraging cyclists to take the purpose-built cycle route between the road bridge over the Adur river on the A283 and the afore-mentioned footbridge might discourage cyclists from lifting their bikes over stiles, which I sincerely hope WSCC will install.

Yours faithfully,

Gerald Heath
